The Sunshine Coast has escaped any major storm damage overnight while still being treated to a spectacular light show in the skies. Energex has reported that more than 35, 000 homes and buisnesses lost electricity as storms swept across the south east last night between 5pm and 8pm

In 20 years, 1.7 million people will land each year at the Sunshine Coast Airport. That is the prediction from airport boss Peter Pallot, who yesterday unveiled a master plan for the Sunshine Coast Airport.

Horseracing will resume at Queensland’s Sunshine Coast Turf Club today. It is the first race meeting at the track since the equine influenza outbreak brought Australian horseracing to an abrupt halt last month.

Yesterday was not the best time to introduce 31 international tourism representatives to our little piece of paradise. But the visitors, who kept themselves amused with the fauna at Australia Zoo, weren’t too fazed by the wild and windy weather.

Just a smattering of rain fell over Brisbane last night but good falls were again recorded on the Sunshine Coast and hinterland. Since 9am yesterday nine millimetres fell over the Brisbane metropolitan area, Amberley received 7mm and Redcliffe 10mm.

The artist the Maroochy Shire Council commissioned to create a sculpture of the late Steve Irwin will arrive on the Sunshine Coast, in south-east Queensland, this Friday. South Australian Silvio Apponyi will create the sculpture as a lasting tribute to the Sunshine Coast-based wildlife conservationist who died when a stingray barb pierced his heart.

Gale force winds and heavy rain have again hit south-east Queensland, with the severe weather set to continue throughout Wednesday. Winds up to 90km/h have been recorded along parts of the south-east coast and will remain until at least late Wednesday afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
