Sunshine Coast Buses - Transport
The main bus services on the Sunshine Coast are provided by Sunbus. Sunbus is the operating entity of Transit Australia Pty. Ltd., which is one of Queensland's largest urban bus operators. As a regional area of Queensland, the Sunshine Coast makes great usage of the air-conditioned mini-buses on offer. This high-frequency service has been operating in Queensland since 1995.
A Sunbus can pick you up anywhere on the designated route network as long as it is safe to do so. There is no need to find a "bus stop" as with most conventional bus services. The Sunbus personnel are committed to providing a quality service at an affordable price that is poses as a real alternative to using a private motor vehicle. Sunbus will do their best to provide a pleasurable hassle-free trip.
The majority of bus services are provided by Sunbus, however regional links are operated by Glasshouse Country Coaches which include the Maleny, Landsborough & Beerwah service as well as the Hinterland Connect.
Translink Go Card
The paper ticket system is almost completely phased out, and has been replaced in South East Queensland by the Translink GoCard; an electronic pass that you can swipe as you get on and off public transport. The card works on trains and most buses on the Sunshine Coast (those that are operated by Sunbus).
You can top up the balance of your Go Card at pay stations around major terminals then simply scan your card as you get on the bus and when you get off. Your fare will automatically be deducted from the balance on your card and also display the remaining balance.
There is no problem with using multiple transport routes and types, your Go Card will work out from the swipes that you are on one journey and charge you accordingly.
Queensland Rail also provide a handy Visitor Pack that explains everything you need to know about getting a Go Card, how they work and where to top up your credit.
It also includes a lot of tips and advice on travel, including some great tourist attractions that are accessible using the Go Card.
