Rainbow Beach - Picture Tour

Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach is a small village located at the northern end of the mainland (southern) section of Great Sandy National Park. The name comes from the coloured sands found in the area, naturally tinted with minerals in the sand, such as rutile, ilmenite, zircon and monazite. Originally a sand-mining community, this small town now thrives on tourist activity, mainly from 4-wheel drive beach-goers and users of Fraser Island, who drive 20 minutes north to catch the ferry from Inskip Point.
